Obituary of David Hammer
David Hammer, 62, died suddenly on May 28, 2009.
Born on March 19, 1947 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Henry and Shirley Fox Hammer.
David graduated from New Jersey City State College in 1972. He taught special education in Newark, NJ. He also taught Adult Education and was a tutor for the Gloversville Enlarged School District. David had a true gift for teaching and made a difference in his students' lives. He was a member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue and taught Hebrew school for many years. David was past president of the Jewish Community Center and was also the Executive Director.
David was the beloved husband of Carol Hammer, who he married on February 14, 1970. He was the father of one son, Jason Pamela Hammer, of Johnstown. Survivors also include two sisters and one brother, Carole Mark Grayson of Braedenton, FL, Barbara Hammer of East Windsor, NJ and Michael Marilyn Hammer of Jamesburg, NJ as well as nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 11AM at the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton Street, Gloversville. Services are entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
Memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue.
