Obituary of Barney F. Licardo

Barney F. Licardo, 94, of Gloversville passed away at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville on Wednesday May 27, 2009. Barney was born in Amsterdam, NY on February 1, 1915 the son of the late Marino and Rosario Giuffre Licardo. Barney grew up in Amsterdam, NY until he relocated to Gloversville, NY in 1946. Barney worked in the glove manufacturing industry for many years, where he owned and operated Licardo Glove in Gloversville until his retirement in the mid 1980's. Barney was an avid sports fan, and his business sponsored a local softball team. In his younger years, Barney was an amateur boxer and remained a fan over the years. Barney is survived by a daughter Donna Bennett of Seneca, SC; two granddaughters Kim Bennett of Mahwah, NJ and Kelly Dispoto of Ramsey, NJ; and two great grandchildren Nicholas and Danielle Dispoto of Ramsey, NJ. In addition to his parents, Barney was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Hoyt Licardo in 1966. The Family will receive friends and relatives on Monday June 1, 2009 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A funeral service will immediately follow the conclusion of calling hours at 12:00 noon, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
