Obituary of Frances M. Lomanto Spencer

Frances M. Lomanto Spencer, 81, of Country Club Lane, passed away early Saturday morning at St. Peter?s Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Born in Gloversville on September 20, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mary DeRocco Lomanto. She was a 1945 graduate of Gloversville High School and lived in this area most of her life. At one time, she served as the host of the radio show ?Woman?s World? on WCSS Radio. Fran was actively involved locally as past president of the Guy Park Avenue School PTA, den mother of the Cub Scouts; she volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Drives and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and its Rosary Society in Tribes Hill. Her husband, Philip J. Spencer predeceased her on Dec. 16, 2005. Fran also lost her son Joseph E. Spencer as well as a brother, James Lomanto. She leaves her son Philip R. and his wife Arlene Spencer of Hagaman; grandchildren, Elizabeth Spencer R.N., Joseph, James and Gabrielle Spencer; brothers, Edward Nancy Lomanto, The Hon. Angelo Grace Lomanto and Salvatore Betty Lomanto all of Gloversville, and Joseph Lomanto of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Connie Humbert Salluzzo of Gloversville and Mary Jane Lomanto of Rivers Edge, New Jersey; many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins also survive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville by the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Interment will be in the family plot in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, or to a charity of one?s choice through the funeral home office.
