Obituary of Ermenia M. Florimo

Ermenia M. Florimo, 97, formerly of Academy Street, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 21, 2009 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam where she has resided since 2007. She was born in Molochio, Reggio-Calabria, Italy December 22, 1911 a daughter of the late Joseph and Teresa Lucci Florimo. Ermenia and her family settled in the United States in 1929. She spent most of her life in Amsterdam and worked as a seamstress at the former Holzeimer & Shaul, retiring in the mid 1980's. She was a Parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church as well as a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the St. Sofia Society. Ermenia will be remembered for her love of family, which was most important to her, and for her kind and giving ways, always being there to care for family and friends in need. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed cooking, decorating, tending to her garden and canning tomatoes. Her loving family includes her cousins, Rosemarie Brown of Amsterdam and Vito and Diane Florimo all of Amsterdam as well as several cousins in Australia and Italy. She is also survived by two nieces, Theresa Konieczka and her fiancé Peter Young, and Roberta Hancock and husband, Rick of Grafton, VA, one nephew, Robert Florimo and wife Nancy of Mechanicville, VA, five great nieces, Michelle Ward and husband Jamie, Theresa Droszd and husband Brett, Sierra Hancock, and Angela and Samantha Florimo, two great-great nieces Bailey Ward and Avery Droszd and one great-great nephew Joseph Ward. She was predeceased by her brothers, Carmen, Robert and Duilio Florimo, and by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Florimo. Prayer Services will be at 8:15AM on Saturday Today, May 23, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:15AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, St. John St., Amsterdam with Fr. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family received relatives and friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
