Obituary of Sadie Catherine Syrylo

Sadie Catherine Syrylo, 93, of Charles Lane, Holland Gardens Apartments, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday afternoon May 10th, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 6th, 1916 a daughter of Peter and Catherine Stankevich Yuskevich. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mrs. Syrylo worked for many years at the former Kresge's Department Store and later the Big N Department Store in Amsterdam in the payroll and invoice department. She was a member of the St. Casimir's Church 500 Club and the Club 60 of St. Mary's Church. She was a communicant of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Sadie married Steve A. Syrylo on September 3, 1939. He passed away on February 29th, 1988. Survivor's include her two dear sisters, Mary Raulen and Violet Sabutis both of Amsterdam. Nieces, Betty Bauer of Oklahoma and Linda Smith of California. Her cousin, Stanley Stankes and his wife Dolores of Amsterdam, NY. Other cousins also survive. Sadie was predeceased by a sister Helen Yuskevich in 1991. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 14th, 2009 at 10:15AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday May 13th, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
