Obituary of Hildegarde Seren

Hildegarde Seren, 95, of Gloversville, passed away on Sunday May 10, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Hildegarde was born on December 31, 1913 in Kudulas, Czechoslovakia. She was the daughter of the late Franz Slansky and Elizabeth Wrhel. Mrs. Seren was of the Catholic faith. She immigrated from Austria to the United States in 1950 to settle down in the Auriesville/Town of Glen area. Hildegarde worked at the Auriesville Shrine, Amsterdam Glove, and the Bojud Knitting Mill until her retirement. Hildegarde was a member of the Gloversville Senior Center and the 55+ Club. Mrs. Seren enjoyed crocheting, baking, and gardening. But most of all she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Hildegarde is survived by her six children, Olga Green Stewart of Perth, Paul Slansky Ida of Fort Hunter, Helga Furteimer Heinz of Germany, Jakob Seren Sharon of Delaware, Nicholas Seren Patricia of Hagaman, and George Seren Lucia of Gloversville. Mrs. Seren is also survived by 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. One sister, Lillian, also survives. In addition to her parents, Hildegarde was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Seren in 1961. Arrangements are entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. There will be no calling hours. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium in Schenectady. A graveside service will take place on Saturday May 16, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams Officiating at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Hildegarde's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation, P.O. Box 13535,; Albany, NY 12203 or to a charity of one's choice.
