Obituary of Mary A. Denny

Mary A. Denny, 93 formerly of Market Street, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at the Millard Fillmore Hospital in Amherst. Born in New York City on Feb. 7, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Ann Horvath Gabryluk, she lived in Amsterdam for most of her life, relocating seven years ago to Amherst to be closer to her daughter and family. Mary retired in 1979 from the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Music played a very important role in Mary's life. She studied opera in New York City in her youth, and later was a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus. She was a dedicated member of the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, where she sang in its choir and was a member of the M.K. Society. Her beloved husband, John Edward Denny predeceased her in 1989. She was the last surviving sibling of the late Steve Pearly and Joseph Gabryluk and Jean Gabryluk Vertucci. Her loving family includes her daughter Mary Ann Joseph Muhitch of Amherst; grandchildren, Joseph M. Barbara Muhitch, Laura Jon Frase, John Liz Muhitch, James Uyen Muhitch and Jason Lisa Muhitch; great grandchildren; Joseph, Katherine and Peter Muhitch, Amanda, Timothy and Mark Frase, Brian and Kevin Muhitch, Seanna and Allison Muhitch; nieces and nephews Kim Ryba, Jeffrey, Richard and Terry Vertucci; Lynette, Jack and William Gabryluk. Services are Monday morning at 9:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by The Funeral Mass which will be offered by Fr. Adam Czarnecki at 10:00 am at the Good Shepherd Church, Teller St. Interment is in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-5 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd P.N. Catholic Church in care of the funeral home office.
