Obituary of Rena Mathias

Rena Hall Mathias, 74, of Gloversville passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Born in Macon, Georgia, on May 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late George Hall and Rosalie Cogle Hall. She was educated in Gloversville schools, and worked for many years for MCA Records. A devoted wife and loving mother to her children Mrs. Mathias was dedicated to her extended family and many friends. Rena is survived by her sons, James Edward Mathias of Gloversville, Richard Margie Dennis Mathias of Dallas, Texas, Daniel Gloria Mathias of Oxford, MS and Randy John Mathias of Gloversville. She is also survived by her daughters, Cynthia Ann Mathias of Buford, MS, Venita Lynn Mathias of Fort Washington, MD, Regina Johnson of Tampa, FL and Nadine Thomas of Gloversville, NY. Also surviving are her brothers, Benjamin Christine Hall and John Gloria Hall, of Gloversville. Rena is also survived by her 27 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Maude Hall, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rena is predeceased by her husband, John Edward Mathias, whom she married January 24, 1952 and her son, Scott Mathias. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Charlie Hall, Murray Hall, E.Z. Hall, Jessie Lee Hall and George Hall, and by her sisters Rosalie Horton and Emma Brown. A visitation will be held for friends and family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY. Funeral services for Rena will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the People's A.M.E Zion Church, 135 East Fulton Street, Gloversville with Pastor Ruby J. Smith presiding. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association of NY, 85 Watervliet Avenue Albany, NY 12206 or the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
