Obituary of Richard A. Stack

Mr. Richard A. Stack, age 85 of Gloversville, died Wednesday evening, May 5, 2009 at the Emergency Room of Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. Mr. Stack was born on June 25, 1923 in Gloversville, the son of the late Andrew and Irene Sherman Stack. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Dick was employed for most of his life as a beverage salesman by the former Cordone's Inc. which later became Sanzone Distributors. He retired in 1996. He also worked part-time as a bartender at Quigley's Tavern during the 1970's. He was a member of the Fulton County DAV, the Johnstown Moose and was a life member of VFW Post #2007 of Gloversville. On June 19, 1971he was married to Harriette Veeder Stack who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Richard Stack Carol of Johnstown and Jon Stack Carol of Broadalbin; three step-children, Burton Ramon Starin Lorraine of Canajoharie, Barbara Frederick Michael of Gloversville and Jane Paris Charles of Gloversville; two brothers, Harry Stack of Gloversville and William Stack Marie of Ballston Spa; seven grandchildren, Jason Stack, Daniel Stack, Christina Huffman, Petrina Frederick, C. J. Paris, Rose Starin and Toby Starin; five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. L. David Almleaf officiating. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to V.F.W. Post #2077, 20 Third Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
