Obituary of Richard G. Herrington

Richard G. Herrington, 74, of Phillip Street, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at his home. He was born in Schenectady, NY on May 1, 1935. He was the son of the late Edward J. and Katherine Frank Herrington. He proudly served with the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in April 1963. He served with the NY Air National Guard in Scotia, NY for many additional years. He later began a forty year career with the General Electric Company. He was employed at the Schenectady plant for a period of time. He was part of the team developing the NASA Test Engine Rocket in Malta, NY. He retired in January 1995 from GE Silicone Plant in Waterford. Dick was an avid model airplane builder and had an extensive collection. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, and was former president of the ALC Club in Amsterdam. On June 7, 1959, he was united in marriage with the former Joan Urba at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church where he was a parishioner. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children; Debbie Herrington and son-in-law Douglas Sawyer of Princeton, NJ, Todd Herrington and daughter-in-law Barbara of Amsterdam and Kristin Herrington of Amsterdam. Grandchildren: Alex Herrington of Winter Park, FL, Nicole Herrington of Amsterdam, Catherine and Jack Sawyer of Princeton, NJ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Veronica Urba of Palm Beach Gardens, FL as well as nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass which will be offered Friday at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Church by Fr. David M. Mickiewicz. Military interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. It was Dick's request that viewing hours be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dick's memory to the Montgomery County SPCA in care of the funeral home office. His arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue.
