Obituary of Marguerite Phillips

Marguerite "Peggy" Phillips, 86, of Cemetery St., Fonda, NY, passed away Thursday April 30th, 2009 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Sammonsville, NY on July 5th, 1922 a daughter of Frank and Nellie Purdell Calhoun. She was a lifelong resident of Fonda, NY and was a 1941 Graduate of Fonda High School. She was employed for 13 years at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY in the Dietary Department. Prior to working at St. Mary's she was a Town Guide for Wade Tours in Schenectady for four years. She was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church and an active member in the Fonda-Fultonville High School Alumni Association. She was also the Past President of the Floyd Deckro Post # 383 American Legion Auxiliary in Fonda, NY and was a member of the Fort Hunter Canal Society. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Phillips of Cape Cod Mass and John Phillips of Fultonville, NY. Her companion Walter Smith of Fultonvile, NY. One brother, James Calhoun of Johnstown, NY. Two sisters, Ruth Lais of Tribes Hill, NY and Frances Pedrick of Johnstown, NY. Two grandchildren, Michele Sanges of Gloversville, NY and Scott Phillips of Fultonville, NY. Two great grandchildren, Shey Sanges and Ty Sanges. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by a sister Ella Cluck of Phoenix, Arizona and a brother Albert Calhoun of Johnstown, NY Funeral services will be held on Monday May 4th, 2009 at 9:30A.M. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville, NY with Rev. Christopher Hamm presiding. Interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday May 3rd, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home.
