Obituary of Joan T. Bubela

Joan T. Bubela, 85, of Gloversville, passed away Thursday April 30, 2009 to be reunited with her husband and daughter. She was born in Newark, NJ on December 24, 1923 the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Margaret Murray Giblin. Joan married Carl F. Bubela on April 8, 1946. They shared nearly 54 years of marriage until his death on February 4, 2000. She was formerly employed as the General Manager of WENT in Johnstown. Joan was the first woman to have her own radio program in Fulton County. She was also formerly employed as a bookkeeper at Amsterdam Distributors. After retirement, she volunteered at Healthlink. Joan was very active within the community. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and the Rosary Society in Gloversville. She was also a former President and Woman of the Year in the Gloversville Business and Professional Women Association. She was a member of the Eclectic Society and a board member of HUD. Joan was also active with Friday's Table, a meal and gathering for the less fortunate. Joan was also very instrumental in raising her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Carl J. Bubela Kay of San Diego, CA; four daughters: Joanne Dillon of Friendsville, PA, Marion Bubela of Del Mar, CA, Karen Hoose Thomas of Mayfield and Eileen Fontanella Dave of Galway; a brother, Peter Giblin Mickey of Gloversville; two sisters: Margaret Tomlins Cal of Florida and Patricia Chamberlain Millard of Lowville, NY; six grandchildren: Christopher, Anastazia and Lisa Bubela, Ryan Stanzel, Todd Hoose and Katie Streeter; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a very close cousin, James Murray, whom she was raised with. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Ann Malagisi and three brothers, John "Bud", William and Thomas Giblin. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday May 3 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday May 4 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak celebrating. Committal prayers will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown.
