Obituary of Helen M. Johnson

Helen M. Johnson, 82, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. She was born April 18, 1927 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Antoni and Agnes Szumowski Konysz. She married Hugh Johnson on January 25, 1947. He predeceased her in 1984. Helen was a woman of many talents and hobbies. First and foremost, she was a wonderful cook. She made cookies for just about every function and event you can think of. Helen loved camping, fishing, hunting, tai chi, swimming and driving. She enjoyed playing cards, meeting every Monday to play with her Johnstown Senior's group. She was also a long time member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. She looked forward every year to the winter carnival in Saranac Lake. Helen was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Northville, of which she was a member, and was a volunteer at their thrift shop. The ultimate party girl, she never missed a party and most of all, never missed an opportunity to spend time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by four daughters: Kathy Klena Randy of Mayfield, Judy Black Tom of Northville, Carol Gardinier Bruce of Mayfield and Mary Gregory George of Saranac Lake; ten grandchildren: Krista, Laura, Dan, Katie, James, Stephen, Jacob, Christine, Allison and Blake, nine great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kiffney of Johnstown, a daughter-in-law, Lana Johnson of Palatine Bridge and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Helen was predeceased by two sons: Paul H. Johnson and Timothy H. Johnson and a brother, Frank Konysz. A funeral service will take place Friday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with the Reverend Michael Terrell presiding. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
