Obituary of Anneliese Schaak

Anneliese Schaak, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 22, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born June 20, 1922 in Neuss, Germany, the daughter of the late Hubert Albert and Friedenke Pheifer Goebels. Anneliese was educated in Germany and worked as a dental hygienist there. She raised her children and pursued a career in sanitation management in the hotel and hospital industries. She finished her career at C.W. Post College in Glen Cove, NY. She married Phillip A. Schaak who predeceased her in 1964. Mrs. Schaak was a past president, secretary and treasurer of the EMA- the Environmental Sanitation Management Association. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, ceramics, gardening and canning. Anneliese was also a phenomenal cook. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons: Michael Schaak of Tampa, FL. and Donald Schaak of Clifton Park; two daughters: Rosemarie Guanill of San Francisco and Karen R. Bischoffberger Philip of Gloversville; nine grandchildren: Ryan, Erin and Megan Bischoffberger, Alaina Gawn, Gina Schaak, Julia Williams and Damen Schaak and Stacey and Jarod Schaak, two great grandchildren: Jeremiah and Elijah Gawn; a daughter-in-law Diane Schaak; one sister, Helga Gerigk of Germany and nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Karen and Philip for taking such loving care of our mom. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 25 at 3 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with the Reverend Bonnie Orth presiding. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anneliese's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville 12078.
