Obituary of Francis W. Thomas

Francis Walter "Frank" Thomas, 60 of County Highway 131, passed away Tuesday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, after being stricken at home. He was born March 21, 1949 in Amsterdam, NY and was the son of Mary Fuller Thomas and the late Raymond Thomas, Sr. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Viet Nam war. Frank worked for 10 years for the Duff Wilson paving company in Johnstown and later was employed as a superintendent of buildings and grounds at the Broadalbin Perth School District, for nineteen years, until retiring in 1995 due to ill health. He attended the First Baptist church of Johnstown. Frank loved spending time with his 4 grandchildren and enjoyed hunting, riding horses for years and fishing in his favorite lakes, Lake Placid, and the Seventh and Eighth lakes and the Salmon River. On December 14, 1968, he married the former Lynda Paro. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters Amanda Oathout and her husband Rodney of Johnstown and Amye Thomas of Johnstown; his mother Mary Fuller Thomas of Fort Johnson, NY; two brothers Ray Thomas, Jr. of Perth, NY and George Thomas, Sr. of Fort Johnson, NY; two sisters Mary Ann Kruger of Fort Johnson, NY and Betty Knudsen and husband Rick of Gloversville, NY; four Grandchildren Rodney, Jr., Brittney, Brandon, and Shaelyn; two Godchildren Lonni Heinze and Rick Spicci; several nieces, nephews and cousins; aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11am at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with Pastor Robert Walter officiating. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY. Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of NYS, 5096 Commercial Drive, Yorkville, NY 13495.
