Obituary of Glenn E. Gill

Glenn E. Gill, 78, of Stoughton, MA, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Albany, NY. He was born in Amsterdam May 22, 1930, son of the late George E.S. and Mary Martha Doak Gill. Glenn was raised in Fultonville and was a 1948 graduate of Fultonville High School. He was also a graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, MA where he received his Associates Degree in Applied Science. Following high school, Glenn courageously served his country with the US NAVY during the Korean Conflict from 1948 to 1952. He married the former Eleanor L. Garguilo on August 3, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Fonda where they resided for a brief time before moving to Massachusetts where Glenn worked for IBM in the Boston area for over 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Stoughton and was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Shriners and of the Disabled American Veterans in Randolph, MA. Glenn was a kind hearted, gentle man who was loved by all of his family and many friends. He was very handy and enjoyed wood working, gardening, golfing and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter whom he adored. His loving family includes his wife of nearly 57 years, Eleanor L. Gill of Stoughton, MA, his daughter Valerie Gill and her husband, Allan Chlastawa of North Greenbush, his granddaughter Ansley Gill Chlastawa of North Greenbush, his sister Beryl Naginey of Altamont, his brother LaVerne Gill and his wife, Ellyn of Hadley, and his sister-in-law, Leona Gill of Fultonville. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Glenn was predeceased by two brothers, William and Harry Gill, a sister-in-law, Audrey Gill, and a brother-in-law, George Naginey. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 6, 2009 at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to services on Monday from 11:00AM to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
