Obituary of Frank M. Fogarty

Mr. Frank M. Fogarty, age 101 of Gloversville, NY, passed away Monday evening, March 16, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. He was born in Ireland on July 22, 1907, one of eighteen children to the late Thomas and Ellen Corbet Fogarty. Educated in Ireland, Frank came to the United States at the age of 17 and lived in Detroit, Michigan where he was employed by the Ford Motor Company for several years. He and his first wife, Josephine, came to live in Gloversville in 1936. Frank was an avid fisherman and was active in the Kiwanis Club and the Fulton County Republican Club in his younger years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville. He was married to Josephine M. Frawley on December 26, 1933. She assisted him in the operation of Fogarty Glove and Embroidery Company in Gloversville. He also was owner of Fogarty Well Drilling in the 1950's and Fogarty Canvas Company. Frank was preceded in death by both of his wives, Josephine M. Frawley Fogarty in 1985 and Shirly B. Hunter Fogarty in 2005; also by sixteen brothers and sisters including Mae, Geraldine, Pauline and Dilly. He is survived by his son, John Fogarty Jayne of Sydney, NY; a sister, Chris McNiven of Ireland; three grandchildren, Janine Fogarty Jim Hoestermann, Joel Fogarty and Julie Ann Neu Ron; three great-grandchildren, Sean Fogarty, Brendan Fogarty and Mackenzie Fogarty; as well as many nieces, nepehws and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 85 Watervliet Ave; Albany, NY 12206 or to the charity of your choice.
