Obituary of Jane A. Schichler

Mrs. Jane A. Schichler, 72, of Railroad Street, Nelliston, died suddenly on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Little Falls Hospital. Born on March 26, 1936 in Salt Springville, NY she was the daughter of the late Henry and Daisy Aird Haynes. A lifelong area resident, Jane was a graduate of Fort Plain High School. She worked for Palatine Nursing Home as a C.N.A. for 20 years until her retirement. She then continued working for the nursing home in a part time capacity. She also worked for Beech- Nut in Canajoharie for a time. Jane was an active and vibrant woman. She served as the secretary for the American Legion Post 554 in Fort Plain for over 15 years. She also was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush and a one time served as Sunday school teacher. Jane enjoyed horseback riding, reading, crocheting and cooking for her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her loving family includes her husband of 39 years, Edward J. Schichler, whom she married on May 29, 1971; her children, Phil Sullivan and his wife Judy of Newark, NY, Brenda Betterton and her husband Richard of Pana, IL, Alice Getman and Ed Czernecki of Herkimer, NY; three brothers, Everett Aird and his wife Gerry of Utah, David Aird and his wife Sonya of Sprakers, NY and Roland Aird deceased; one sister, Eileen Brooks and her husband Scotty of Florida; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends; and her beloved dog, Jack. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda. Relatives and friends are invited and may call for one hour, prior to the service beginning at 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 554, Webster Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
