Obituary of Julia Lena Hayes

Julia Lena Hayes, 74, of Gloversville, passed away on March 4, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Julia was born in Gloversville on March 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Clarence P. Van Allen Sr. and Edna Lawyer Van Allen. She was a graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. Julia was a life long resident of Fulton County. She had worked at the Grandoe Glove shop in Gloversville for over 20 years. Julia enjoyed many simple pleasures in life such as: sewing, crocheting, baking, cooking, puzzles, word puzzles as well as "The Young and the Restless". Julia also liked music. Some of her favorite music was piano, The Three Tenors, Yanni, country music and also Rod Stewart. But most of all, Julia enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Julia is survived by her nine children: Sarah Lea Hayes of Gloversville, Arthur O' Hayes Judith of Mayfield, Barbara J. Schilling Ron of Wyoming, Jo Ann Frye Sam Dunlop of Gloversville, Andrew J. Hayes Tina of Amsterdam, Kathleen M. Carentz Jeffrey of Mayfield, Nancy C. Bellen Tom Sr. of Mayfield, Wilma C. Ketchum Joe of Gloversville, and Claire L. Dai Te Wei of Connecticut. Additional survivors include two brothers; Clarence P. Van Allen Jr. and Donald Van Allen; a sister Edith Reeves; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Julia was preceded in death by her husband Arthur O' Hayes Sr.; a brother Charles Van Allen and a sister Jeannine Hayes. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont St; Gloversville.
