Obituary of Stanley A. Johnson

Mr. Stanley Alan Johnson Sr; age 77, died February 28, 2009 at Mary´s Haven, Saratoga Springs, NY. Mr. Johnson was born December 11, 1931 in Gloversville, the son of the late Hollis W. and Marguerite Richardson Johnson. He was a descendant of Israel Johnson of North Creek, NY. Stanley graduated from Gloversville High School in 1949 and later in his life graduated from the Educational Opportunity Center of HVCC in Troy. He was a Korean War Era Veteran and served in the Navy aboard the USS Columbus. He was employed by the United States Internal Revenue Service, where he worked as a clerk in Latham until his retirement in February of 1997. Stanley also worked for the Lee Dye Company and the Acme and Saveway Supermarkets. Mr. Johnson was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his wife of fifty three years whom he married on May 7, 1955, Mary Sue Gill Johnson of Saratoga Springs; four sons: Stanley A. Johnson, Jr. of Amsterdam, Thomas A. Johnson of Crockett, CA, Michael H. Johnson of Schenectady and Joseph F. Johnson of Schenectady; four grandchildren: Michael R. Johnson and his mother Suzanne Sarka Johnson, Christopher M. Johnson and his mother Carrie Newkirk, Hartford L. Johnson and Parker W. G. Johnson and their mother Ann Rowland; a sister in law, Mary Horak Johnson; nieces Mary Beth Kopf and Kathleen Sokolovic and many cousins. Stanley was predeceased by his two brothers, Hollis and Larry Johnson and a daughter in law, Joan McLoughlin. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 78517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517
