Obituary of Josephine Venezia

Josephine Venezia, 83, of Division Street, passed away peacefully Friday, February 20, 2009 at E. L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam with her loving family by her side. She was born in New York City September 15, 1925 a daughter of the late Ludovico and Katie Vaccaro Mammina. Josephine was raised in New York City and graduated from high school in that area. She moved to Amsterdam in 1952 where she worked for Fownes Brothers for over 20 years. She also worked at SUNY Albany for many years retiring in the late 1980's. Josephine was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Amsterdam for many years and was also a former member of the Perth Seniors. She very much enjoyed playing cards for pocket change with her neighbors and friends, having just a bit of a competitive edge. She also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her loving family includes her sons, Angelo Michele Venezia of Herndon, VA and Joseph Bernadine Venezia of Leesburg, VA, her brother, Joseph Mammina of Florida, her grandchildren, Rebekah Andrew Mercer of Leesburg, VA, Alexander Venezia of Herndon, VA, Shannon Gabe Vega of Leesburg, Daniel Venezia of Leesburg, VA, and Katie Venezia of Leesburg, VA, and her great-granddaughter, Aria Vega of Leesburg. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her twin brother, Sal Mammina. Funeral Services will be at 9:00AM on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with Pastor Siegfried Ignecia, officiating. Interment will be held this spring in Chuctanunda Cemetery in Minaville. At Josephine's request, contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
