Obituary of Alec G. Petrillo

Alec G. Petrillo, 84, of Caroline Street, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amsterdam January 23, 1925, a son of the late Dominic and Carmella Napolitano Petrillo. Alec was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Amsterdam schools. He served his country with the US ARMY during the WWII era from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. He married the former Mary Torsone in Amsterdam on April 8, 1945. In 1960, Alec started Cross-Cuts Contracting Co. which he owned and operated for several years. He also was employed as a 4 color Pressman Foreman, with Amsterdam Printing and Litho, for over 24 years, retiring in 1983. Alec was of Roman Catholic faith and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. His loving family includes his wife of over 63 years, Mary Petrillo of Amsterdam, two sons, Alan M. Petrillo of Tucson, Arizona and Jim Petrillo of Hagaman; grandchildren, Lisa, Joshua, Matthew and Sara; great grandchildren Ryan, Kayli, Rhea, Abrianna, Joey, Alessandra, Julianna and Raphael. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Prayer Services will be at 8:30AM on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:15AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam with Fr. Brian List as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 4 until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Contributions in Alec's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
