Obituary of Jane M. Schuler

Mrs. Jane M. Schuler, 87, of Prospect Street, Canajoharie, died suddenly Monday, February 9, 2009 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Born on February 18, 1921 in Palatine Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Angelica Spraker Van Wie. A lifelong area resident, Jane was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. She later went on to attend Sergeant College, which was affiliated with Boston University. She graduated in 1943 as a physical therapist. Jane was at one time the head of physical therapy at Sunyview. She later was employed as a health teacher for Canajoharie retiring in 1991. Jane was an active member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts of America and was a senior life guard at the Canajoharie Pool. In her 70's she was involved with the Library as a teacher for the reading hour. She also had memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Club. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. On August 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph Schuler. That union lasted 32 years until his passing in 1978. She was also predeceased by a son, William Schuler in 2003. Her loving family includes her daughter, Julianne Vooys of Schenectady; her brother and best friend, Barton Van Wie of Canajoharie; three grandchildren, Jennifer Donaldson, David Donaldson and Amber Miller; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 11 o'clock at St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Church Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Elaine Berg presiding. Interment of her remains will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie where her arrangements have been entrusted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church or to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.
