Obituary of Laura K. Peters

Laura K. Peters, 33 Kingsboro Avenue, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009. She was born in Gloversville on November 15, 1921. She was the daughter of James and Lucy Heakcock Kelly. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1940 and attended Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. Mrs. Peters became a secretary and worked at the former Trust Company, for Bernie Logan, two assemblymen in the Albany legislature and the law firm of Robins and Cole in Hartford, CT. She also worked at General Electric Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady and on the Gloversville election board. She was a member of the former Gloversville-Johnstown United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served on the board of the YWCA. Mrs. Peters was a member of the Getman Memorial Home Board for many years. On October 9, 1954, she married Donald F. Peters, who predeceased her. They have two sons: F. David Peters of Alpharetta, GA. and Andrew J. Peters of Goshen, IN. They have five grandsons: Christopher, John, Gregory, Matthew and Daniel. Family will receive friends Friday, February 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Cynthia Van Allen officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Peters' memory to the Getman Memorial Home, 15 East State Street, Gloversville, 12078; the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or the YWCA of Fulton Co.
