Obituary of Franklin E. Nelson

Mr. Franklin E. "Bucky" Nelson, 80, of Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, died unexpectedly, peacefully Sunday morning at home. Born on January 25, 1929 in Fort Plain, he was the son of the late William and Cora Hoyer Nelson. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Fort Plain High School. Bucky had many jobs and hobbies through the years. He was a truck driver, a dairy farmer and worked as a canal operator for the NYS Canal Corporation in Fort Plain. He was an avid motorcyclist and a golf enthusiast. Above all he loved his family dearly, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ruth McClellan, Donald and William Nelson. His loving family includes his wife of over 59 years, the former Betty Christman whom he married on September 24, 1949; two daughters, Sandra Eckler and her husband John and Cindy Grimm and her husband John; two grandchildren, John J. Eckler and Mathew Grimm; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 7 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service beginning at 5. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department or to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.
