Obituary of Mary Beth Jevitt

Mary Beth Jevitt, 46, of Nadler Road, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, Albany, with her loving family by her side, following a seven year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Amsterdam, August 25, 1962 a daughter of Philip and Patricia Martin Barone of Columbia Street, Amsterdam. Mary Beth was a life resident of the area and was a 1980 graduate of Amsterdam High School and a 1984 graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School where she received her Diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Registered Nurse. She had previously worked at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam, St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, and Baptist Retirement Home in Scotia. She also worked part time as a Teacher's Aid with Amsterdam City Schools. Mary Beth then attended Maria College and was a graduate of the year 2000, when she received her Associates Degree in Applied Science and her certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. She went on to work at Liberty Day Treatment for a brief period of time before taking leave due to the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Mary Beth fought her illness with a positive uplifting attitude, always finding ways to move forward. She became a member of the Caring Together Support Group for Ovarian Cancer Survivors in Latham where she met so many wonderful friends who were sharing in the same challenges she was facing. She had a loving family with two children whom she adored and loved to spend time with and travel with. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mary Beth leaves behind her husband of 24 years, James M. Jevitt whom she married September 1, 1984, her children, Amanda N. Jevitt and Justin M. Jevitt both of Amsterdam, her sisters, Pamela J. Barone of Amsterdam, Janet L. Barone and her husband James Cedeno of Monaca, PA, and Jennifer M. Barone and her husband Orest Mykyta of Norwood, MA, her father-in-law, John F. Jevitt of Amsterdam, her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joseph and Cindy Gatchell of Amsterdam, Felicia Jevitt and Jeffrey Schneider of Mason, OH, and Yvette Jevitt of Amsterdam, maternal grandfather Donald Martin and her niece and nephews, Cameron Cedeno, Morgan Schneider, Jeremy Schneider and David Gatchell. Mary Beth was predeceased by her brother John P. Barone who passed away in 1994. Prayer Services will be at 9:00AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00AM at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman with Fr. Martin DeRose as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
