Obituary of Peter J. Bluvas

Mr. Peter J. Bluvas, 87, of Midline Road, died peacefully, early Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born on February 17, 1921 he was the only son of two Lithuanian immigrants, Francis and Peter Paul. This was during Amsterdam's heyday, and he and his friends rowed the Mohawk River for entertainment. A lifelong area resident, Peter attended city schools and later went on to attend Albany Business College and Union College. He served for a time with the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Front. For over 25 years he was employed at General Electric in Schenectady as a production control supervisor until his retirement. His family includes his wife of over 60 years, the former Gertrude Dumblauskas; four sons, Peter and his wife Tricia of Perth, Ted and his wife Lynn of Kansas City, MO, Christopher and his wife Susan of Gloversville and James and his wife Joelle of Tribes Hill; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Peter was always a very neat and organized man who always did very well by his family. He enjoyed the sun his entire life and now he can relax. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A prayer service will be conducted on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 8:30a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30a.m. at St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 5 until 7 Friday evening at the funeral home.
