Obituary of Joseph Aleksa

Joseph Aleksa, 94, of County Highway 107, Perth, passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Tardauskas, Lithuania, on April 20, 1914, he was the son of Jonas and Ona Aleksa. Raised and educated in Lithuania, he emigrated to this country in 1949 from Germany. Joseph retired in May of 1979 as a pattern cutter for Mohasco. He was long devoted to Scouting in this area, and served as committeeman, and council advancement chairman for Troop 33 in Perth. He was awarded many merit badges such as the Silver Beaver and Ad Altare Dei Catholic Scouting award. Joe was a longtime parishioner of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church where he served as an usher and until very recently, Eucharistic Minister. He also loved to fish and remained active in the sport until the age of ninety. He will be remembered as a loving family man who cared for his beloved wife during her prolonged illness. He married the former Rose Karuzas on Aug. 29, 1953, and she predeceased him on January 9, 2002. He leaves his sons; Joseph A. Lynn Aleksa of Vienna, West Virginia, and Peter J. Sharon Aleksa of Pittsfield, Mass.; four grandchildren; Peter, Michael, Jocelyn and Joseph Aleksa; nieces and nephews as well as relatives in Lithuania. Services are Saturday at 8:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass which will be offered at 9:30am at St. Casimir's Church. Fr. David Mickiewicz, celebrant. Interment is in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Church Memorial Fund in his memory.
