Obituary of Richard G. Voigt

Richard G. Voigt, 78, of Frederick Street, passed away peacefully Monday morning at home. Born in Amsterdam on August 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Virginia Daye Voigt. A lifelong resident, he was a graduate of the University Of Michigan where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. Richard entered the US Air Force in January of 1951 and served in Korea. He later began a thirty year career as an electrical engineer for Niagara Mohawk, retiring in 1992. He remained an electronic buff, and loved to repair and refurbish all types of machinery. A caring and loving man, he had a special affection for all animals, especially cats. He attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife, the former Geraldine Vrooman on July 8, 1991. He leaves his dear companion, Maria Miknavich of Amsterdam; his daughter; Colleen Barry Rutten of Bothell, Wash. , a son; Timothy Voigt of Amsterdam; his brother; Robert T. Voigt of Amsterdam as well as an aunt; Minna Brundidge of Amsterdam, three nieces and a nephew. Services are Monday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church where military honors will be conducted. Fr. John Medwid, will celebrate the Mass. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Mary's Institute in care of the funeral home office.
