Obituary of Charles S. Herb

Mr. Charles S. Herb, 67, formerly of State Street, Fort Plain, died peacefully Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on September 14, 1941 in Gloversville he was the son of the late Richard and Ina Jane Ball Herb. An area resident for most of his life, Chuck was educated in Fort Plain and was a graduate Fort Plain High School. For a time, he was the proprietor of Parr's Shoe Store in Fort Plain and worked for Lee Publications. He then went on to work for Combined Life, based in Cobleskill until his retirement in 2005. Chuck loved to golf and play tennis. He also was very active with the Mid County Volunteer Ambulance Service. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Bridget Volpe, whom he married on February 25, 1963; one son, Matthew Herb; his half brother, Richard Myrna Herb Jr.; his sister, Rosemary Waffle; his sister in law, Fanny Volpe; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. A Service of Remembrance and Legacy Candle Ceremony will be conducted on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort Plain Cemetery.
