Obituary of Daryl R. Dyer

Mrs. Daryl R. Dyer, a direct descendent of the Fort Klock Family, formerly of Spring Street, Fort Plain, died peacefully Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Palatine Nursing Home. Born on July 22, 1920 in St. Johnsville she was the daughter of the late Willis and Katharine Klock Shaffer. She was 88. A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Dyer was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and attended the Eastern School for Physians Aides in New York City. During WWII she returned to Fort Plain where she worked for a time at I.M. Yordon Box Manufacturing Company and Beech- Nut in Canajoharie. For many years she served as the administrator of the Canajoharie Nursing Home and the Katharine Nursing Home in Amsterdam, until her retirement in 1976. Mrs. Dyer enjoyed music, gardening, card playing, fishing and was a loyal Mets fan. She also was an avid bowler and was a 25 year member of the Mr. and Mrs. America Bowling League in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Fort Plain Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and a supporting member of the Fort Plain Museum and the Fort Klock restoration. Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. On January 20, 1948 she was united in marriage to Howard A. Dyer. That union lasted 50 years until his passing on July 2, 1998. Her loving family includes her two daughters, Deborah Skivington and her husband Kevin and Katharine Brust and her husband William, all of Buel; five grandchildren, Mark Skivington of Glens Falls, Beth Latini and her husband Lawrence of Canandaigua, Mary Skivington of Fort Plain, Sarah Shibley of New York City, Diana Kelley and her husband Gary of Fredericksburg, VA; one uncle Adam Klock of Ovid, NY and cousins. A Graveside Service of Remembrance will take place on July 18, 2009 at 1 o'clock in the Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Fort Klock, the Fort Plain Museum or the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
