Obituary of Hyland E. Young

Hyland E. Young, Jr., 74, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. He was born November 14, 1934 in Gloversville, the son of the late Hyland and Pearl Parks Young. Mr. Young was employed as a leather shaver for Grandoe Gloves, Inc. Hyland proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963. He enjoyed painting, drawing and woodworking but most of all he enjoyed his family. Hyland played bass in many local bands throughout the years, including: Western Aces, Gill Goodspeed & the Countrymen and Roosevelt Smith & the Country Strings. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Carol Ryder Young of Gloversville, whom he married on September 1, 1962. Other survivors include eight children: Darlene Allen of Gloversville, Merle Young Peggy of Mayfield, Tawny Bauer Tom, Fawn Trickler Keith, Melissa Young, Jason Young, John Young and Todd Young, all of Gloversville; twenty nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren and one brother, Walter Armstrong of Florida. Hyland was predeceased by two brothers: Art Gibson and Harold Gibson; two sisters: Vera Seiler and Pearl Armstrong and one grandchild, Dustin Wade Young. Family and friends are invited and may call Thursday, December 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Cremation will be at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady. Donations may be made in Hyland's memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211.
