Obituary of Josephine Montano Martin

Mrs. Josephine Montano Martin died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam. She was 93 years of age and was a lifelong resident of Gloversville. She was affectionately known to everyone as "Grandma Doe Doe". She was born August 17, 1915 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Domenico and Agnes Vietri Montano. A 1932 graduate of Gloversville High School, she later became a bookkeeper at the family owned Montano Electric Supply for many years until she was 72. Josephine was a member of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. On December 27, 1943 she married Howard B. Martin, Sr. who died May 21, 1961. Survivors include two children: Carole Canale of Amsterdam and Howard "Buck" Martin Phyllis of Ballston Spa; four grandchildren: Jason Martin, Christopher Canale Catherine, Kevin Canale Tanya and Lynn Prince Greg; five great-grandchildren: Angelo Canale, Connor Canale, Lindsey Prince, Lauren Prince and Megan Prince; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Josephine was preceded in death by her four siblings: Vincent Montano, Charles Montano, Arthur Montano and Phyllis Casano; and also by her son-in-law Edward Canale. There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9th at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility Activities Fund, 4988 State Hwy 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Josephine´s family wishes to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the SNF1staff at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility for the kindness and compassion given to our mother and grandmother. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville.
