Obituary of Florence Kaplan

Florence Kaplan 88, of Phillips Street passed away early Saturday at the River Ridge Living Center. Born in New York City on Feb. 23, 1920, she was the daughter of Solomon and Rose Klein Donath. Educated there, she moved to Amsterdam in July 1955. While raising her family, Florence became active in the PTA. After her children left home, she became involved in her husband's business, the Montco Manufacturing Company which was located in the Chalmers Building. Florence handled sales and goods manufactured by Montco and also supervised the Montco Retail Stores. Florence was a board member for a number of years of the United Way and was a member of Congregation Sons Of Israel. On April 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joel Kaplan. In addition to her beloved husband of sixty two years, she leaves her children; Carolyn Fred Signer of Long Island, Louise Kaplan / Unsoeld Krag of Olympia, Wash. And Kenneth Lisa Kaplan of Westchester County, NY; five grandchildren; Hayley Kaplan, Kai Kaplan/Unsoeld, Lee Kaplan /Unsoeld, Marc Signer and Jason Signer; her sister; Amalia Lewis Abrams of Long Island and nieces and nephews. Services are Monday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with Rabbi Martin Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Congregation Sons Of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. The family will received relatives and friends one hour prior to the service from 10-11 am Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Florence's memory to The Amsterdam Free Library, 28 Church Street, The Liberty Foundation, 43 Liberty Drive, or the Congregation Sons Of Israel, 355 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam 12010
