Obituary of Edward R. Waldynski

Edward R. "Big Ed" Waldynski of Wall Street, passed away Monday afternoon at St.Mary's Hospital shortly after being admitted. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Briostek Waldynski. He moved to this area in 1947. Ed proudly served his country as an Army veteran, and was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion and the Polish American Veterans. Active at Post 701, he served as bingo chairman for a number of years. Big Ed as he was affectionately called, was always the life of the party and had a vibrant personality. He was well known in the area for his special meat sauce when he worked at Brownie's Hot Dogs. An avid dart player, he won several awards for his competitions. Ed was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady until he retired in 1978. On Sept.25, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Anna Sgambati. In addition to his beloved wife of fifty nine years, he leaves his sons; Edward P. Frances Waldynski of South Elgin, Il., and Michael R. Sharon Waldynski of Broadalbin; his daughter Ginny William Edes of Amsterdam; grandchildren; Patrick Waldynski, Thea Dayringer, Michael and Raymond Waldynski and Lindsey Ruoff; he was the proud great grandpa of Dylan Waldynski; brother in law to Jennie, Carmie and Peter; nieces and nephews also survive. Ed was also predeceased by his siblings, John Walden and Dorothy Gawron. Services are Friday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Following Mass, military honors will take place and burial is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where Post 701 will gather to pay tribute to Ed at 6:00 pm. Contributions may be made in his name to Post 701 or to St. Mary's Church, both in care of the funeral home office.
