Obituary of Adelene Konik

Mrs. Adelene "Addie" Konik, 82, passed away Saturday at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown She was born August 18, 1926 in Endicott, NY, daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Picciano Mastrangelo-Roach. She was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School. Following her marriage August 21, 1948 to John C. Konik Sr., she relocated to Gloversville in 1952, where she spent most of her life. A homemaker until her children were adolescent, she was active in Brownies and was a Girl Scout Leader while her daughters were young. She was active in PTA and volunteering at Gloversville Little League baseball throughout her children's school years. Addie was a sales clerk at the former Britts Department Store and for many years she was a buyer and manager in housewares at the former Argersinger Department Store in Gloversville until retirement. A dependable and devoted volunteer, Addie was a member of Sacred Heart Church and served as president of the rosary society for many years. She also was a long time member of Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary and various other community groups. Following her husband's retirement in 1986, they enjoyed many years spending winter in Port Charlotte, FL where they continued forming new friendships and enjoying retirement. Perhaps her greatest joy was family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she spent a great deal of time. Her husband, John C. Konik, Sr. pre-deceased her November 10, 2007. Survivors include her children: John C. Connie Konik of Caroga Lake, Jan Marie Konik of Endicott, NY and Barbara Ann Neil Theiss of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Francis Lopata of Charlotte, NC and her grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Daniel, Jonathon, Ariel and Alexander, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Addie was pre-deceased by a sister, Margaret Roach and two brothers, Paul Roach and the Honorable Camille M. Roach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at Sacred Heart Church with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-6 pm at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
