Obituary of Paul W. Slavik

Mr. Paul W. Slavik, 90 years old of John Street, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born January 10, 1918 In Amsterdam, the son of Paul and Annatalya Szurek Slavik and was a life long resident of Amsterdam. Mr. Slavik served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War 2 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He then went to work for the former Mohawk Carpet Mills, American Locomotive, the former Empire Devices, the former Singers Metrics and finished his working career with the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He also worked for several years at the former Lou's Market in Amsterdam. Mr. Slavik was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 701, Galway Fish and Game Club, the former Glenville Fish and Game Club and the Sacred Heart Society of St. Stanislaus Church. He loved to hunt, shoot trap and playing checkers and bridge. On September 14, 1946 he married the former Sally Samolis who died in 1990. Mr. Slavik is survived by his son Dr. Paul Joseph Slavik and his wife Dr. Kathleen Doyle, of Portage Wisconsin; his grandson Drs. Paul William and Marni Slavik of Burlington, VT.; his great granddaughter Evey Ryan Slavik and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Katherine S. Lech. Funeral services will be held 8:45am Tuesday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 9:30am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church. Burial is in St. Casimir's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 4 until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made: St. Casimir's Church, 206 E.
