Obituary of George P. Terwilleger

Mr. George P. Terwilleger, formerly of Hammondtown Road, Amsterdam, NY passed away Monday September 1, 2008 at the Forum at Brookside Skilled Nursing Facility in Louisville, KY. Born on June 9, 1925, he was a son of Orville B. and Hazel Grimshaw Terwilleger. He was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and attended Amsterdam schools. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. After the war Mr. Terwilleger worked for the former Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in Amsterdam for over 40 years retiring in 1987. He married Eve E. Elmy Terwilleger on May 31, 1947. In addition to his loving wife survivors include; one son, Leslie A. "Les" Terwilleger Jean of Louisville Kentucky; one sister, Marilyn Tallman Schuyler of Amsterdam and three grandchildren, Carla, Anthony and Sam Terwilleger. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. George was pre-deceased by a son, Duane G. Terwilleger, in 1987 and a sister, Dorothy Smith. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 5th, 2008 at 9:00 AM at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Pawling St., Hagaman, NY with the Father Martin DeRose as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hagaman, NY with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 4th, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Church or to the Albany Regional Cancer Center, 317 Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208-1738.
