Obituary of John K. Otto

John K. Otto died peacefully at his home on Friday, August 8, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 15, 1926 to the late Erna Knopf and Kurt Otto in Gloversville. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School. He joined the Naval Air Corps in 1944 with service in Corpus Christi, Texas. John was employed at Curtin- Herbert where he worked as a tool and dye maker until his retirement in 1988. John was a former member and officer of the Lazy 8 Radio Control Club and a member of the Archery Club of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life, teaching many family members to hunt and fish as well. He loved being in the wilderness. He was always helping family and friends and would be the first one to lend a hand if needed. John also enjoyed bowling. He was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Gloversville. He married Marie Derrico Otto of Gloversville, who survives, on May 4, 1947 and was married for sixty-one years. In addition to his wife, survivors include one beloved son, John "J.T." Otto and his wife Kathy, two wonderful grandsons: Jay Thomas Otto and Ryan Matthew Otto; all of Brandon, Florida; one sister who meant the world to him, Betty Pasquarelli, and nieces and nephews: Kathy Garber, Rick Garber and his wife Leslie, Melissa Buyce and her husband Josh; all of Gloversville, Ron Pasquarelli and his wife Shelly of Whitesboro, NY. All of his nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews were the light of his life: Jon Owen, Michael Garber, Christian Garber, Brandon Gibson, Kira and Kelsey Gibson; Leah, Sara and Lucas Pasquarelli, and Juliana and Devin Buyce. Friends and family are invited and may call at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, on Tuesday, August 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Gloversville with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville, NY 12078 or the Fulton County SPCA, 486 Stevers Mills Rd. Broadalbin, NY 12025.
