Obituary of Gladys M. Krohn

Gladys M. Krohn, 71, of Youngs Corners Road, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Ellis Hospital with her family by her side. Born on August 30, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Walter "Buck" and Gertrude Francisco Kruger. A lifelong area resident, Gladys attended local schools. She went on to attend Nursing College in Bennington, Vermont. She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital and the Montgomery County Infirmary until her retirement. Gladys was a skilled scrabble player and an avid quilter. She was a member of the Loving Hands and All Seasons Quilt Guild and the Florida Reformed Church. On June 29, 1957 she was united in marriage to Eugene "Sweetie" Krohn. Together for over 50 years, they raised a beautiful family and made their home in the Town of Florida. Gladys took great pride, and was instrumental in the Francisco Family Reunion. Along with several other family members and cousins, she would plan the reunion each year. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Alice Gaugler. Her loving family includes her husband; four sons, James and his wife Jean and their children, Amanda and Angela of Tribes Hill, Bruce and his wife Linda, their children, Paula, Emily and Kevin of the Town of Florida, Patrick and his wife Denise and their children, Jake, Rolland and Veroniqu-e of the Town of Florida, and Walter S. and his wife Joan and their children, Alexandra, Aubrey and Ashley of Hagaman; several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Gladys's requests, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Chuctanunda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Schenectady County, The Florida Reformed Church or the Florida Volunteer Fire Department, all in care of the funeral home office.
