Obituary of Edwin C. Schoonmaker

Mr. Edwin C. Schoonmaker, 90 years old, of Nelliston, NY died Friday, July 4, 2008 in St. Johnsville Rehabilitation Center in St Johnsville, NY. Born August 19, 1917 to Charles and Bertha Schoonmaker of Palatine Bridge, NY, he was a retired Car Salesman from Roosevelt Chevrolet where he worked for 20 years, he was also a volunteer Police Officer for the Ft. Plain Police Department in Ft. Plain NY. He was a member of the Euphrates Rod & Gun Club and a member of St James Catholic Church in Ft. Plain, NY. Mr. Schoonmaker was preceded in death by his son SFC Larry T. Schoonmaker US Army Ret. and his wife of 57 years Ann Marie Schoonmaker. He is survived by 2 daughters, Joan A. Cecil and husband Gysgt. Jerry D. Cecil USMC Ret of Inverness, FL, and Mary Alice Ribnikar and husband Daniel D. Ribnikar of Maitland, FL. He has 6 grandsons and one granddaughter. Allan E Tyler of Jacksonville, FL, Russell A. Tyler of Homosassa, FL, Shawn I. Tyler of Williston, FL. Larry T. Schoonmaker of Herkimer, NY, Heather M Kelly of Leitchfield, KY and Daniel D Ribnikar Jr. of Maitland, FL. He had 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, a sister Edith Schoene of Schenectady, NY and several nephews and nieces and many cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in Edwin's memory on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11 o'clock at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Fort Plain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. At Edwin's request, he was cremated and the interment of his remains were placed at the Fort Plain Cemetery.
