Obituary of Carmela Generoso Tagliaferri

Mrs. Carmela G. Tagliaferri, age 88, died Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008 at Albany Medical Center Hospital following a long illness. She resided in Gloversville most of her life, and had been a resident of Pineview Commons in Johnstown for the past year. She was born on August 12, 1919 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria Villani Generoso. A graduate of Gloversville High School, she was employed at various area glove manufacturers including Crocetta's and Gates Mills, and later worked at Wrobel's Luncheonette in Gloversville. She was also employed as a supervisor at the former Idle Hour Restaurant in Johnstown. Carmela and her husband Albert owned and operated Carm's Pizza in Johnstown for 13 years. Mrs. Tagliaferri was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Johnstown, and its Rosary Society. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was married to her husband of 63 years, Albert J. Tagliaferri on September 5, 1943. Mr. Tagliaferri died July 20, 2006. Survivors include three children, John V. Tagliaferri Katherine of Gloversville, Rosemary Tagliaferri Gnip Louis of Ballston Spa and Mariaelaina Tagliaferri-Markiewicz Richard of Rotterdam; six grandchildren, John V. Tagliaferri II, Jason Tagliaferri, Holly Gnip, Devon Gnip Sherman, Winter Gnip and Ashley Gnip; four great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jocelyn Sherman and Capri and Giovanni Tagliaferri; a nephew, Vincent Generoso Matilda; a niece, Maria Hoffer Henry and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Generoso. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown. The Rev. Kenneth Swain will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd; Albany, NY 12205.
