Obituary of Dorothy E. Oare

Dorothy E. Oare, 75, of Church St. Hagaman, NY passed away with her loving family at her side on Tuesday May 6th 2008 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a long illness. Born in West Galway, NY on May 10, 1932 a daughter of Edward Nelson and Bertha Mae Cranker Orrey. She was a lifelong resident of West Galway and Hagaman areas and attended Hagaman Elementary and Amsterdam Technical High School. She was of the Protestant faith. She married Robert Oare Jr. on October 7, 1950, who passed away on January 19, 2002. Mrs. Oare was employed for a time at Colette Manufacturing and later worked for Fownes Bros. Glove Mill in Amsterdam. For most of her life she was a homemaker and took care of her family. She was a wonderful and loving mother who will be greatly missed by her family. She enjoyed reading and collecting cookbooks and just being with her beloved family. She was also a foster parent for several years. She is survived by, two sons, Robert M. "Tookie" Oare and his wife Nancy of Hagaman, NY. Edward N. Oare and his wife Donna of Amsterdam, NY. Two daughters, Bonnie L. Griffin of Gainesville, GA. and Laurie A. Smith and her husband Jeffrey of Schenectady, NY. Three sisters, Abbie Madej of Amsterdam, Mary Bell and her husband Douglas of West Galway, NY and Jane Zanella of Perth, NY. Five grandchildren, Robert Ray Oare, Arthur R. Vascherault, Julia E. Presley, Nattiece A. Taylor and Robert W. Oare. Two great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Oare was predeceased by a sister, Anne Lingenfelter, son in law, Michael E. Griffin and a brother in law, Steven "Brown" Madej. There are no calling hours or funeral services. Private inurnment will be in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 328, Hagaman, NY 12086. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. At this time we would like to send a special thank you to Dr. David L. Ford, Dr. Iftikhar A. Syed and the Nursing staff at Ellis Hospital for the wonderful care extended to our mom.
