Obituary of Louis Pavlak

Louis Pavlak 91, of Elm Street, Pattersonville, a former resident of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away suddenly Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on March 23, 1917, he was the son of Stephen and Lottie Plodgisgewski Pavlak, he attended local schools. During World War II, he proudly served his country as a private in the US Army. He saw combat in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the American Service, Good Conduct and European & African Service Medals. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to work on the family dairy farm. Lou began a long career at the Fiberglass Industries and retired as a supervisor in 1986. Until very recently, he and his wife enjoyed their winter home in Zephryhills, Florida. An avid golfer Lou also loved travel and camping. In later years, he was a very proud member of the Green Thumb project, working at both the Lock 10 and 11 sites. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Lou took great joy in having his family around him, especially now with his five great grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, and it was there that on October 20, 1940, he was united in marriage to Molly Meliosky. In addition to his beloved wife of nearly sixty eight years, he leaves his loving daughters; Lorraine Nowak VanWingerden and her husband John of Pattersonville, and Patricia SanSoucie and her husband Eddy of Amsterdam; A sister, Irene Duran of Hagaman; grandchildren; Philip Susan Nowak and Kimberly Sean Meca; great grandchildren; Jamie and Jarrett Nowak, Tyler Meca and twins Madisyn and Conner Meca; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lou was predeceased by his brothers, Henry and Stanley Pavlak. Services are Wednesday at 10:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass which will be offered at 11:00 am. By Fr. David Mickiewicz. At St. Casimir's Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home.
