Obituary of John Sorbero Steele

John Sorbero Steele, 77, of State Highway 30S, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born in Amsterdam on June 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rubina Tagliaferro Sorbero. He was a 1949 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. John received his bachelors degree in accounting from Clarkson University. He then began a twenty five year career in accounting and retired from the State Of New York Department Of Taxation And Finance. In his youth, John was an avid football player both in high school and college. He also loved to work in contracting, often assisting family and friends with building projects. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. John will always be remembered as a loving family man. On Feb. 27, 1966 he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Downey. In addition to his beloved wife of forty two years, he leaves his loving sons; Richard Julie Steele of Cooperstown, Mark Melony Sorbero of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Scott Joan Adamo Steele of Bethesda, Md.; dear siblings; sister, Carmela Brooks of Rotterdam, brothers, Anthony Sorbero and Thomas Ann Sorbero all of Amsterdam; cherished grandson Alexander John Steele, step grandchildren Scott and Kathryn, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Frank, Joseph, and Carmen Sorbero; sisters Mary Murrane, Lucia Nocian and Rose Sorbero. Services are Monday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in John's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home office.
