Obituary of Leicester Fosmire

Leicester Fosmire, 90, of Upper Prospect Street, passed away Wednesday morning at the St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born November 28, 1917 in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Kate Lockyer Fosmire. In 1937 he graduated from Gloversville High School and later he graduated from the Foley Belsew Trade School for Locksmith. Leicester was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he served with the Battery "B' 776th Anti Aircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion and was in the battles and campaigns of Northern France, Central Europe, Ardennes and the Rhineland. Leicester was employed for the Genesee Supply Company as a shipping supervisor, later a manager and road supervisor. He then worked for the Detroit Supply Company, various auto supply companies in the area and was last employed as the service manager for J B Auto in Amsterdam. After his retirement he worked as a night watchman for the Independent Leather Mill in Gloversville for a number of years. He was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church and loved working in his garden. On July 25, 1941 he married the former Bettye M. LaRowe who passed away April 14, 2006. Survivor's include his loving family, a son Francis "Fuzzy" Fosmire Yvonne of Gloversville; three daughters, Eleanor Peterson Rev. Lowell of Fremont, Ohio, Julie Robbins Gary of Gloversville and Susan Whitman of Johnstown, NY; a sister Beverly Gardner of Temple Terrace, Florida; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons. "A Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held on Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY with the Rev. Lois Dodge officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in spring at the Broadalbin- Mayfield Cemetery in Broadalbin. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Leicester's memory to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 396, Tribes Hill, NY 12177. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY.
