Obituary of Thomas Daye Richards

Thomas Daye Richards, 78, of County Highway 107 Amsterdam, NY, passed away Sunday evening April 6, 2008 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Healthcare Facility. Thomas was born November 28, 1929 to Ruth Ellen Daye Richards and Henry Gardner Richards. He was a lifelong resident in the Amsterdam area. He was educated in the Perth school system. Thomas had been retired for many years but he was employed by Cranesville Block for several years. He always worked in the construction business. Thomas spent many years on the construction of the NYS Thruway. He was a communicant of Perth Bible Church and was deeply dedicated, serving as a deacon for many years and working with the bus ministry. He was involved with the Sacandaga Bible Conference in his younger years. He took great pleasure in the camp and performed volunteer work there. Thomas loved the outdoors, ran heavy equipment, he was a carpenter and built his own home in Perth. Thomas was married to Eleanor Alice Close on August 25, 1951 and is survived by her and their five children: Patrick Richards of Perth, Verlene Polick of Perth, Laurie Pabon of Amsterdam, Michael Richards of Mayfield and Terrance Richards of Amsterdam; a sister, Nancy Forgette of Perth; a brother, Jerrett Richards of Hagaman and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Thomas was a loving son, husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 9 from 6 to 8pm at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home in Broadalbin. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 10 at 10am from the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Perth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, 4988 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
