Obituary of Doris Barker Humphrey

Doris Barker Humphrey, 77, of Barber St., Fonda, passed away peacefully Friday evening April 4th, 2008 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 24, 1930 a daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Blakely Barker. She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Fonda High School Class of 1947. Doris worked for many years on her family's farm, Barker Brothers Farm, Sand Flats, Fonda. She also worked as a Teacher at the Crossroads Bible School, Sand Flats, Fonda. Mrs. Humphrey later worked at the Fonda High School in the cafeteria. She was of the Protestant Faith. Mrs. Humphrey enjoyed collecting and researching Indian artifacts, painting and hunting in the Fonda area. She also loved being with her extended family and treated everyone like they were her children. Doris married Albert Humphrey on June 8, 1971. He passed away December 27th, 1992. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert Barker, Joan Barker Wells, D. Joseph Barker, Judy Hale, Doris Barker, Thomas Fisher, Ronna Fisher, Edward Pitcher, Colleen Pitcher Peck, Willard Stewart, Gary Barker, Lois Barker Bradt, Janet Barker Duesler, Harry Barker, Michael Barker, Stephen Barker, John Barker, Joseph Barker and Nora Barker. Great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Along with her 6 siblings she was predeceased by a nephew Roger Fisher in 2006. Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 7th, 2008 at 11:00A.M at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville, NY. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday prior to the funeral service from 9:00 to 11:00A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Rd., Amsterdam, N.Y. 12010.
