Obituary of John J. Mattioli

John J. "Spinner" Mattioli, 62, of State Highway 67, Fort Johnson, passed away peacefully Wednesday noon at St. Mary's Hospital. His loving family was at his side. Born in Amsterdam on May 20, 1945, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Nicolena Montemagno Mattioli. Educated locally, he lived here his entire life. John was a mechanic for his entire working career, working for various local companies, most recently for Tri-Lift of Troy, N.Y. He retired in 2007. John was an avid motorcyclist, and loved riding his Harley. He was most happy when surrounded by his extended family, who will miss his great smile and wonderful sense of humor. He also was well known in the area as a D.J. at many parties and social events. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. His loving family includes his brother, Tony Colleen Mattioli of Middle Grove; sisters, Antoinette Bob Mueller of Saratoga Springs, Connie Ed Schultz and Nicolena "Nikki" Mattioli all of Amsterdam, Esther Gary Tomlinson, Irene Bert Brooker all of Broadalbin, and Mary Dave Traver of Perth; his dear friend Cheryl Alikonis of Amsterdam; step daughters, Amanda and Alyssa as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass Of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Contributions may be made in Spinner's name to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, or the New York Oncology Hematology Cancer Center, both in care of the funeral home office.
