Obituary of Emilio Jalyco Suarez

Emilio "Jalyco" Suarez, 66, of Romeyn Avenue, passed away peacefully on Holy Saturday, March 22, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico August 5, 1941 a son of the late Roque and Angelina Ayala Suarez. Emilio came over to the United States with his family in the 1960's living in New Jersey. He made his home in Amsterdam in 1970. Emilio married the former Evelyn Rivera of Amsterdam on August 25, 1973. He was of Roman Catholic faith and was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Amsterdam. Emilio was a former member of the Spanish American Club and was a very social individual, well known in his community. He enjoyed his social outings to the Casinos, OTB and the Horse tracks. Emilio's loving family includes his wife of 34 years, Evelyn Suarez of Amsterdam, four sons, John Suarez of Amsterdam, Alberto Suarez of Puerto Rico, Ralphael Suarez of New Britton, CT, and Emilio Luis Suarez of Passic, NJ, one brother and one sister, Luis A. Suarez and Genoveva Soto, both of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dominick and Valerie Rivera of Niskayuna, Louis and Michelle Rivera of Monroe OH, Milagro Rivera of Colonie and Irving and Carol Rivera of Amsterdam. Three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Services will be at 8:15 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:15AM from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St., Amsterdam with Fr. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends this evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Contributions in Emilio's name may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny's Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
